Robert G. “Bob” Larkin of Plainfield died March 11. He was 91.
Born Oct. 9, 1922, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Vernie and Vanita (Collins) Larkin. He married Mary Carolyn Wren on Sept. 23, 1945, in Greencastle. She preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 2009.
Mr. Larkin was a 1944 graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Rose Polytechnic Institute) in Terre Haute. After graduation, he worked for NACA (now NASA) in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1947, he went to work for Allison Gas Turbine (now Detroit Diesel Allison) in Indianapolis until his retirement in 1982. He initially worked as a mechanical design engineer and eventually became a design supervisor. He made significant contributions in the design of many gas turbine engines during his 35-year career.
He was a member of Plainfield Christian Church.
He is survived by son, Thomas Robert (Ruth) Larkin; a daughter, Nancy (Michael) Larkin Thomas; five grandchildren, Amber (Brian) Larkin Heerdt, Andrew Larkin, Kelly Thomas, Carrie Thomas, and Casey Thomas; one great granddaughter, Edie Marie Heerdt.
Services will be at 1 p.m. March 17 in Plainfield Christian Church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. March 16 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield.
