Robert Emmet Rarey of Brownsburg died Monday. He was 88.
Born Sept. 16, 1924, in Belfrey, Mont., he was a son of Benjamin A. and L. Pearl Hall Rarey.
The family moved to Greentown when he was a child and he attended Union Township, Onward, elementary schools and graduated from Kokomo High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He also served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve for more than 35 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. His working career was spent in the transportation industry, including J. I. Case Corporation, Mayflower, Bekins, Wheaton and Lion Van Lines.
Mr. Rarey was active in the Kokomo High School Alumni, class of 1942, the American Legion Post 331, Marine Corps League and the Marine Air Group, Grissom USAF retired.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nancy Bonewits Rarey; children Dan Rarey, John Rarey and wife Darlene, Susan Rarey, Joseph Ray and wife Julie, Daniel Ray and wife Sharon, Kristine Mason and husband Rick, and Nancy “Robin” Ryan; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Hamm; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Matthews Mortuary, 690 E. 56th St., Brownsburg. Interment is at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery in Reelsville at 3 p.m. that day.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
