Stephen P. Brown

Stephen P. Brown of Plainfield died Sunday. He was 68.

Born Jan. 18, 1945, in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Myron and Marian (Armstrong) Brown.

Mr. Brown was a U.S. Navy veteran. He did his undergraduate studies at Indiana University and received a masters degree from the University of Rochester in New York and a doctorate from Stony Brook University in New York. He was a professor at Texas Christian University and Stony Brook University. He worked 20 years as a district manager at Equitable Life Insurance Company before retiring in 2003. 

He was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church, the Plainfield Kiwanis, Life Master in bridge and chess, and was an Eagle Scout.

Survivors include daughters Michelle (Andrew) Meyer and Jeanette (Marty) Brown-Hunt; a brother, Gary E. (Pam) Brown; and grandchildren McKenzie and Ethan Meyer.

Graveside services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox.

Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
