Jane Roach Garner of Brownsburg died Tuesday at the age of 97.
Born Aug. 14, 1916, she was the daughter of Delia Agnes (Tillie) Dugan and Thomas Roach, the youngest of eight. Her marriage to Kenneth Garner, better known as Butch, lasted 66 years.
Mrs. Garner attended Brownsburg Public Schools, graduating in 1934. She earned the highest honor possible for a girl at that time, secretary-treasurer of the high school's athletic association, elected by the student body with all senior girls as candidates. She was employed by many companies during her lifetime, including the American Legion headquarters, Allison Transmission, Eli Lilly, Cornelius Printing, and she retired fromSaturday Evening Post Publishing. She was a lifetime member of St. Malachy Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Kelly Garner; son-in-law, Mark White; grandchildren, Nathan White, Nick White, Noah White, Brendon Garner, Justin Garner, Breanne Garner, and Julie Garner; and many nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Kitti White, preceded her in death.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at St. Malachy Church. Burial will be in St. Malachy Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Nov. 7 at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg.
