Robert W. Keown of Brownsburg died Thursday at the age of 78.

Born March 29, 1935, in Butler County, Ky., he was a son of Dueard and Corine Keown. He married Linday Kay Roark and she survives.

Mr. Keown moved to Indiana in 1940 and graduated from Lawrence Central High School in '53. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-63.

In his professional life, Mr. Keown spent 50 years in the construction industry until his retirement in 2008.  In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, caring for his pets, watching Fox News, and traveling.  He was a member of the National Concrete Masonry Association, the Construction Specification Institute, Brownsburg American Legion, Masonic Lodge 685, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, and was a master gardener.

Also surviving are children and stepchildren Debbie Sarmiento, Diana Kimbley, Bob Keown Jr., Kerry Reifel (Chris),Danny Keown (Dawn), and Kurt Wright; eight grandchildren; and pets Betty and Kitty.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg. Interment will be at Brownsburg Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
