Dorothy L. Jones

Dorothy L. Jones died Saturday at her Plainfield home. She was 79.

Born Aug. 17, 1933, in Mitchell, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Mary (Cooper) Sheeks.

She was a 1950 graduate of Mitchell High School and received a bachelor’s degree in art education from Indiana University in 1954 and a masters in art education from IUPUI in ‘82. She was an elementary school teacher in Greencastle and Mitchell. She also taught in Solano Beach and Samon, in Lemoore, Calif. She retired from Northwood Elementary School in Mooresville after 21 years.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Plainfield United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sons Jeff (Cathy), Jay, and Robert Jones; a daughter, Holly (Mike) Richardson; a brother, William L. (Pauline) Sheeks; a sister, Rosemary McCart; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold L. Jones, and a sister, Janet K. Greene.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Plainfield United Methodist Church.

Calling is for an hour prior to the service.

Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
