Walter "Pappy" Thayer of Bainbridge died Tuesday. He was 79.
Born Nov. 6, 1933, he was a son of the late Ole and Beulah Plumber Thayer. He married Charlotte Baker and she survives.
Mr. Thayer served in the U.S. Army. He worked 35 years for GM truck and bus in Indianapolis before retiring in 1997 as a millwright.
Mr. Thayer enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in his workshop, and telling stories.
He was a member of the Greencastle Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness.
Additional survivors include his children, Skipper and wife Susan, and Richard and wife Sue; a daughter-in-law, Cindy, and husband Mike; a sister, June, and husband Don; grandchildren Trish, Lincoln, Grant, Brittany, Crystal, and Luke; and great-grandchildren Lilly, Summer, L.J., and Jacob.
Preceding him in death was a daughter.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield with David Earles officiating.
Calling is for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
