— Dorothy M. Smitha of Bedford died Saturday at Bliss House in Bedford. She was 91.
Born Dec. 20, 1921, in Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Roy A. and Hazel Patterson. She married Homer Gilbert Smitha on July 21, 1942, and he died in 1982.
Mrs. Smitha was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, sailing, was a Girl Scout leader, Methodist Youth Fellowship sponsor, and volunteered at the Brownsburg Police Department for 20 years before moving to Bedford in 2005. She was a member of Calvary Methodist Church in Brownsburg for 50 years, until moving to Bedford and changing her membership to First Baptist Church in Bedford.
Survivors include a daughter Carol Strong and husband Barry of Bedford; sons Bob Smitha and wife Sandra of Golden Valley, Ariz., and Don Smitha and wife Susie of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Julie Pritchett and husband Aaron of Bedford; Lt. Cmdr. Amy Bleidorn and husband John of Longbeach, Miss., Jennifer Anderson of Texas, Lisa Zeller of Tallahassee, Fla., Evan Smitha and wife Bridgett of Tallahassee, Abby Smitha of Jacksonville, Fla., and Erin Lamblez and husband Ben of Jacksonville; nine great-grandchildren; four nieces and nephews; a brother, Roy Lee Patterson and wife Reulah of Pittsboro; and a sister-in-law, Janet Meyer of Speedway.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Betty, who died in infancy.
A Celebration of Life ceremony is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with the Rev. Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. Entombment will be at North Washington Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Calling is for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
