William J. Counter of Plainfield died Monday at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville. He was 84 and had formerly resided in Greencastle.
Born Dec. 12, 1929, in Canton, S.D., he was a son of the late Theodore and Susan Counter. He married Mary Counter and she survives.
Mr. Counter was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He retired from General Motors in 1984 after 30 years on the assembly line.
Additional survivors include a son, Rick Kemp; daughters Susie (Butch) Moore and Geraldine (Phil) Turner; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
Calling is for an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
