Stanley R. Abbott


— Stanley R. Abbott of Danville recently died. He was 91.

Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Crawfordsville, he was a son of the late Aben M. and Gladys M. (Butler) Abbott.

Mr. Abbott graduated from New Ross High School and attended Wabash College and Purdue University. He worked as a plant coordinator for Alcoa in Lafayette, and then returned to the farm in Montgomery County.

In 1952, he purchased and relocated to a small farm south of Pittsboro. He worked many years in Indianapolis as a purchasing agent for Armour and Company, Wm. H. Block Co., and M&E Manufacturing Co., and was active in the Purchasing Agents Association. He was also general manager of the C.L. Miley Co. and was in charge of the installation of the air handling system when the State Office Building was built.

He then purchased and ran the Champion Mop Co. for several years before returning to the farm in Hendricks County.

Mr. Abbott was active in local politics in Middle Township, Hendricks County, and the Indiana Farm Bureau Federation.

He grew up in the Mace Methodist Church and attended the Pittsboro Christian Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, L. Marcille (Brown) Abbott; a son, Jerry A. Abbott and wife Jean of Lebanon; a granddaughter, Deborah J. Abbott of Lebanon; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Harold M. Abbott, and a sister, Margery (Abbott) Manges.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at David A. Hall Mortuary, 220 N. Maple St., Pittsboro. Interment will be at noon that day at Mace Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
