Charles Reid Brooks died April 13 at his home. He was 87.
Born April 8, 1926, in Greens Fork, he was a son of the late Francis and Letha Brooks. He married Marilyn Mantooth on April 9, 1960 in North Salem.
Mr. Brooks was a veteran of World War II. He graduated from Butler University with bachelor and masters degree. He taught school and was an elementary administrator for 39 years. After retirement, he became an avid writer and published four books.
He enjoyed painting and singing in his church choir. He was a long time member of Westview Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn; children Beth (Mike) Miller, Scott (Corri) Brooks, and Matt (Kelly) Brooks; grandchildren Patrick (Meagan) and Kristi Miller, Carly, Mandy, Allie Brooks, Sadie and Charlie Brooks.
Preceding him in death were sisters Alice Stephenson, Doris Durbin, and Elma Lou Carter.
A memorial service conducted by Mary Alice Mulligan of Westview Christian Church is 4 p.m. April 28 at Speedway Baptist Church, 2986 Moller Road, Indianapolis.
Calling is for two hours prior to the service at the church.
