Verna M. Smith of Avon died Oct. 23. She was 55.

She was the daughter of Velta Beavers of Avon and the late Vernon John Smith.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by step-fathers, James Henry Mangus Sr. and James Irvin Beavers; maternal grandparents, Clara Mae and Perry Beavers; paternal grandparents, Victor and Tina Smith; and her animals, Skipper, Smokey, Little Bear, Golden Boy, Tiger, Fluffy, and Friskey.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by brothers, Robert Smith of Avon, James Mangus of Indianapolis; sister, Velta King, of Plainfield; sister-in-laws, Brenda Smith, Evelyn Mangus, Shannon Smith; brother-in-law, Charles King; nephews, Jason Smith, Anthony Mangus, Michael Thomas; nieces, Tesa Smith, Jessica Mangus, Emily King; great-nephews, Jason Michael, Austin, Joey Smith; and her dogs Spike, Chip, and Cottonelle.

Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at Conkle Funeral Home Avon Chapel. Burial will follow in West Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hendricks County Humane Society.
