Chaplain Tom Burton of Noblesville died March 1. He was 70.
Born Dec. 18, 1943, he was the son of the late George and Kathryn Burton. He married Joyce Burton and she survives. They were married for 48 years.
Mr. Burton had been the lead mechanic at Trans World Airlines for 21 years and was then called to the Southern Baptist Seminary. He preached in Noblesville. He also volunteered at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department. From 2000 until his passing he was the agency’s senior chaplain and was instrumental in development and organization of the support teams and services.
He found absolute joy in every opportunity to serve family (including 17 foster children), chaplains, inmates, and any passing stranger.
His favorite passage of scripture was 1Thess 5:16-18. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Services will be at 11 a.m. March 6 in Christ Community Church of Hamilton County, 772 N. 10th Street in Noblesville, with the Rev. Mark Fidler and his son, Tommy Burton, officiating. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. March 8 in Crownland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. March 5 in the church.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Christ Community Church of Hamilton County, 772 North 10th Street, in Noblesville, with Pastor Mark Fidler and his son Tommy Burton officiating.
