Robert 'Bob' Dean Jackson of Lake Forest, Calif.

Robert “Bob” Dean Jackson of Lake Forest, Calif., died Dec. 29, 2013. He was 71. He married Elaine Hanlin and she survives. They were together for 29 years.

Mr. Jackson was raised in Monrovia and attended Monrovia High School. In 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a jet mechanic during the Cuban missile crisis. After being honorably discharged in 1964, he enrolled at California State University, Fullerton, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business in 1969. Upon graduation, he began his insurance career with Aetna as a field adjuster. In 1973, he moved to Gaebel & Watkins where he expanded his portfolio in claims and opened a satellite office for the firm in Newport Beach, Calif.

In 1987, Bob established his own business, RDJ, Inc. DBA Atlas Claim Service. For the next 20 years, he provided ethical insurance adjusting expertise and was often called upon to lead training seminars at insurance companies on topics such as profit and loss statements and bid comparisons.

Mr. Jackson and his wife shared several passions: skiing, biking, photography, and scuba diving. Bob was an expert diver and instructor, and his remarkable underwater photos from exotic locations around the world will be enjoyed by friends and relatives for many years to come. When not in the water, he loved spending time on the boat, the Asilio.

He also loved road and mountain biking. For nearly 18 years, he was a staunch supporter and participant in the Bike MS Bay to Bay Tour where he helped raise funds and motivate others to participate.

In addition to his wife Elaine, he is survived by his brother, Richard William Jackson; nephew, Marion David Western; niece, Bonnie Sue Western; and other extended family members.

Services will be from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 in Sunny Hills Church of Christ, 2255 N. Euclid St., Fullerton, CA 92836. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Red Cross or the Ocean Conservancy.
