Freda Madeline Ferrell of Indianapolis died Nov. 21. She was 91.
Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Longacre, W.V., she was a daughter of the late John and Hattie Livesay.
Mrs. Ferrell was raised in Chesapeake, W.V. Her father passed away when she was a child, and her uncle, Arnold Pauley, helped in her upbringing. She attended elementary and junior high school in Chesapeake and high school in East Bank, W.V.
She married Herbert Ferrell from Joes Creek, W.V., in 1939. During most of their married life, he worked in the coal mines and she was a homemaker. When the last son went to school, Mrs. Ferrell went to work at the local company store. She later worked at Bluzzard’s Restaurant and Blackie’s Canary Cottage.
In August 1963, the Ferrells moved to Indianapolis. There, she worked at Kresge’s Department Store, Dales Department Store, and Kmart, from which she retired from full-time employment at the age of 62, and part-time employment at the age of 75.
Survivors include children Brenda Carol Allred and husband Harry A., Donna Joann Stinnett and husband William D., Rebecca Louise Jones and husband Troy B., John Herbert Ferrell and wife Janet, Patricia Ann Stinnett and husband Douglas M., Kenneth Lee Ferrell and wife Martha, Gary Arnold Ferrell and wife Anna, and Tammy Louise Jones; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. Entombment services will follow at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis.
Calling is for two hours prior to the service at the mortuary.
