Mary Virginia Bauman Black of Brownsburg died Feb. 6 at the age of 76.

Born Feb. 13, 1936, in Long Beach, Calif., she was the daughter of the Rev. Paul and Aldine Bauman. She married Dr. M. James Black in 1958. He died in 2007.

Mrs. Black was a graduate of Warsaw High School attended Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind. She earned her nursing diploma from Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne. Her memberships included Bethesda Baptist Church, where she served as an AWANA leader and was active in the women’s ministry where she prepared dinners for grieving families and knitted hats for the needy.

Survivors include her sons Dr. David J. Black and Daniel J. Black; daughters Lori Lynn Wilmot, Marilie Ann Marks, and Melodie Alaine Kindig; a sister, Carolyn R. Rutherford; eight grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Louis Paul “Sonny” Bauman.

Services were Saturday at Bethesda Baptist Church. A private interment was conducted at Lizton Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg was in charge of arrangements.
