Sgt. First Class Jim Vester of Lizton died Dec. 4. He was 32.
Born Aug. 25, 1981, in Muncie, he was a son of Walter and Janice (Bir) Vester of Yorktown, who survive. He married Jamie (Green) Vester on June 11, 2005, in Kokomo and she also survives.
Mr. Vester graduated from Yorktown High School in 2000, and was active on the varsity wrestling and soccer teams. He was a mechanic in the United States National Guard, serving a tour in Iraq 2005-06. He was also a member of the Ceremonial Unit.
He attended Cornerstone Christian Church. He enjoyed cooking, motorcycles, and spending time with his family.
Additional survivors include a son, Gavin Vester; a brother, Nathan (Ashley) Vester of Terre Haute; a sister, Megan (John) Seyler of Warsaw; his grandmother, Alice Bir of Alexandria; his mother-in-law, Shelley (John) Wieske of Greentown; his father-in-law, Jim (Malissa) Green of Kokomo; a sister-in-law, Jana Green of Kokomo; step sisters-in-law, Mariah Ormsby-Wieske of Kokomo, Alicia Cecil of Kokomo, and Heather Cecil of Kokomo; a step brother-in-law, Derick Cecil of Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Wendal.
Preceding him in death were a cousin, Jenny Thomas; and grandparents Kenneth Bir, Walter Vester Sr., and Suzzanne Vester Bishop.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Cornerstone Christian Church, 8930 N. S.R. 267, Brownsburg. Interment with military honors will follow at Brownsburg Cemetery.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the “Love and Support for Jamie and Gavin Fund."
