Herbert E. Boone

Herbert E. Boone of Danville died Monday. He was 78.

Born Sept. 30, 1934, in Kirklin, he was a son of the late Simpson Arnold and Minerva Belle Jane (Ely) Boone. He married Mary Lou Crumbley on Oct. 2, 1956, and she died Jan. 8, 2011.

Mr. Boone served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to ‘57. He worked 35 years as a TBA manager with Farm Bureau Co-op/Co-Alliance before retiring in 1996. Following retirement he mowed grass for Hendricks County.

He was instrumental in bringing Junior League Football to Danville, umpired Little League baseball, and enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include daughters Tracy Boone of Danville and Kelly (Boone) Hadley of Jamestown; sons Scott Boone and wife Amada of Jefferson, Texas, and Vince Boone and wife Sherry of Crawfordsville; grandchildren Cassady Hadley of Danville, and Joshuah and Andre Boone of Jefferson; a great-grandson, Chase Purdy of Danville; sisters Judy Simpson and husband Harold of Richmond and Rosemary Davis of Noblesville; nieces and nephews; and a dog, Miss Kitty.

Preceding him in death was a sister, Marty Collins, and brothers Rex, Max, and Jerry.

A memorial service is from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Danville. His remains will be taken to Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirklin at a later date.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
