McCafferty

Thomas W. McCafferty died March 14 at his Avon home. He was 73.

Born Jan. 23, 1940, in Vincennes, he was a son of the late Donald and Dorothy McCafferty. He married Linda E. Stewart on June 29, 1963, and she preceded him in death.

Mr. McCafferty graduated from Marion High School in 1958 and from Purdue University in '63 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He participated in post graduate work and conducted computer and numerical analysis industrial courses. He was an engineer-in-residence, advisor, and guest lecturer at Purdue University for utility models.

He retired from Public Service of Indiana (PSI Energy) in 1995 after 32 years of service. He began as an intern at PSI while a student at Purdue and retired as director of technology assessment. Over the years, he held a variety of positions at PSI including technical computer applications supervisor, power plant design and construction manager, power plant engineering manager, corporate support services director, and power system services director.

Mr. McCafferty co-founded PSI's annual engineering conferences and was active in the Indiana Electrical Association (IEA). He authored articles in several electrical publications. On the national level, he participated in committees, chaired committees, and conducted conferences for Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

He was Toastmaster Club No. 2332 past president, B.P.O.E. (Elks) No. 2186 member, Avon United Methodist Church member and past trustee, Boy Scouts of America member and past advancement chairman, Indianapolis Jazz Club member, and Indianapolis Zoo charter member.

He enjoyed reading, sailing, fly fishing, traditional jazz, golf, antique radio repair, and classic cars.

Survivors include a daughter, Lora McCafferty of Brownsburg; a granddaughter, Amber Smith of Brownsburg; a sister, D. Jane Wolfe and husband Stan and family of Raleigh, N.C.; in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life "Irish Wake" will run from 4 to 7 p.m. April 6 held at the Elks Lodge No. 2186, 4710 E. U.S. 40, Plainfield.
