Eugene Walter “Gene” Karstens of Coatesville did May 11. He was 80.
Born July 27, 1933, in Davenport, Iowa, he was the son of the late Walter and Helen Koss Karstens. He married Judith Varmo on Aug. 24, 1975, and she survives.
Mr. Karstens graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1951. He attended MIT and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a manufacturing processing engineer for Allison Transmission for 38 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Plainfield United Methodist Church.
Additional survivors include his children, Christopher K. (Marketa) Randall of Marietta, Ga., Stephanie R. (Ron) Gick of Fowler; two nieces, Sandy (Gilbert) Krantz of Indianapolis, Sharon Wallace of Webster Groves, Mo.; and grandchildren, Claire and William Randall, Alex, Brandon, and Anna Gick. Services will take place at 2 p.m. May 15 in Plainfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Visitation will be from noon until time of service in the church.
