Olie E. Slayten Jr. of Plainfield died Sunday in Wellbrooke of Avon. He was 71.
Born April 1, 1942, in Westmoreland, Tenn., he was the son of Lois D. Mandrell and Olie Slayten, Sr. He married Linda Roberts in 1966 and she survives.
Mr. Slayten was an electronic tech for South Central Bell and Indiana Bell, and retired from Ameritech in 1995. He was an Air Force veteran, attended the Journey Church, and loved to work on old radios and crossword puzzles.
Also surviving are four sons, Matthew (Amy), Phillip (Jayanna), Richard (Dianna), and Douglas Slayten; a sister, Nancy (Lavon) Albertson; four grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Jonathon, and Nolan; a niece, Ellen (Matt) Porter; and a cat, Spooky.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Calling will be from 4-8 p.m. Nov. 13 in the funeral home.
