Mendenhall

Oct. 9, 2013

Josephine Dee "Jody" Mendenhall, a lifelong resident of New Winchester, died Wednesday in her home. She was 84.

Born Oct. 14, 1928, she was the daughter of Frank Dee and Ruth Bonolyn (Pierson) Walton. She married John F. "Jr." Mendenhall on Dec. 31, 1948, and he survives.

Mrs. Mendenhall was a 1946 graduate of New Winchester High School and attended Central Normal College in Danville. She served as secretary to the president of First National Bank in Coatesville for a time, but her dedication was assisting on her family farm and being a homemaker. From 1971 to '80, she also transported special needs children to West Central Joint Services in Indianapolis.

Also surviving are her children, Jay Dee (Karen) Mendenhall of Coatesville, Bonolyn (Rick) Thomas of Danville, Jerald (Rhonda) Mendenhall of Coatesville, John Mendenhall of Danville, Brenda (Jeff) Fleece of North Salem, and Barb Leath and James Mendenhall, both of Danville; 17 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Mendenhall, and a sister, Helen Louise Doub.

A family-only visitation and graveside services were conducted. Weaver and Randolph Funeral Home, Danville, was entrusted with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Hendricks County Community Foundation, 6319 E. U.S. 36, Suite 211, Avon, IN 46123, in honor of Josephine Mendenhall's Legacy for Special Needs Children; or to the New Winchester Cemetery Association, c/o Weaver and Randolph Funeral Home, P.O. Box 150, Danville, IN 46122.
