Ellia Lorena (Reisert) Marsh-Scamahorn died March 31.
Born April 7, 1919, in New Albany, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Lorena (Dodge) Reisert. She married Alva James “AJ” Marsh on April 18, 1941, and he died in 1983. She married Matthew Scamahorn on July 12, 1998, and he also preceded her in death.
She graduated in 1937 from New Albany High School and then went on to receive a teacher’s certificate from Central Normal in 1939. She taught for more than 34 years for the Wayne Township school system. On Aug. 3, 1962, she earned a bachelor of science degree in teaching from Butler University. In 1980, she received an outstanding service award from the Wayne Township Board of Education, coinciding with her retirement from teaching.
Mrs. Marsh-Scamahorn volunteered more than 12,000 hours with the Hendricks County Hospital Guild. She was also an officer and active member of Rebekah’s Lodge, Queen Esthers, the Indiana Teachers Sorority of Alpha Theta Kappa, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Pittsboro Christian Church for more than 60 years, during which time she has served as an elder and as the Sunday School treasurer for more than 40 years.
She and her second husband volunteered for Hendricks County Meals on Wheels well into their 80s.
Survivors include brothers Earl and Elwood Reisert; sisters Edna Williams and Evelyn Eurton; a son, Wayne (Nancy) Marsh; grandchildren David (Anita) Marsh, Darrell (Katherine) Marsh, Michele Marsh, Leslie (Greg) Waters, and Staci (Chris) Syester; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Eddie Reisert; a son, Larry Marsh; and grandchildren Michael and Melissa Marsh.
Services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Pittsboro Christian Church, 216 N. Maple St., Pittsboro.
Calling is for two hours prior to the service.
