Robert E. Cooper of Brownsburg died Monday at the age of 80.
Born Aug. 24, 1932, in Greencastle, he was a son of the late Clarence Arthur and Violet Mae (Alexander) Cooper. He married Marie Wells on June 16, 1957, and she survives.
Mr. Cooper graduated from Greencastle High School in 1950. He worked for G. C. Murphy while he was in school, until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. After basic training he served three years in Germany. He received an honorable discharge in 1956. Upon returning, he worked at General Motors plant 1 in Speedway for many years, retiring from E.D.S. in 1996.
Additional survivors include a son, Gregory Cooper; daughters Jennifer Ross of Frisco, Texas, and Cynthia (JR) Cook of Plainfield; grandchildren John Ross of Indianapolis, Janice Ross of Frisco, Mara Pollack of Avon, and Kaylie, Morgan and Jordan Cook of Plainfield; great-grandchildren Jackson Cooper Ross of Frisco and Layla Pollack of Avon; a sister, Carolyn Sue (Bill) Brown of Brownsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were brothers Clarence Arthur Jr. and William (Bill); and a sister-in-law, Betty Jean Cooper.
Services are noon Friday at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
