Born May 29, 1937, in Albuquerque, N.M., she was a daughter of the late Ray and Marie Patterson.
Mrs. Dawes moved to Danville in 1999 to join her sons and their families.
She worked 12 years as a meter reader for PNM in Albuquerque, N.M., before retiring in 1998. In her later years she worked at a local grocery store, handing out samples.
When her children were younger, she was an active member of the PTA; a scout leader for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; and was also an avid soccer mom and grandmother, never without a camera in her hand. She enjoyed attending sporting events and practices, cheering on her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include sons Ron Dawes and wife Lisa and Rick Dawes and wife Kathy of Danville; a grandson, Laurin Dawes and wife Angie of Danville; seven other grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with another one on the way.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Donna McCarty; brothers Ray Patterson and James Patterson; and a sister, Mildred Bowman.
Mrs. Dawes elected to have her body donated to science to further research Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, the genetic condition that led to her death.
Memorials may be made to the Alpha-1 Association online at www.alpha1.org.
