William E. “Wes” Schilke

William E. “Wes” Schilke of Brownsburg died Feb. 26. He was 84.

Mr. Schilke was a graduate of the University of California Berkley with a bachelor of science degree in engineering. He later received a master of science in engineering from Purdue University. He worked 34 years as a mechanical engineer for Detroit Diesel Allison where he designed and created the SCAAN program that is still in use.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking and handcrafting children’s toys, having made the wooden fire truck at the Brownsburg Fire Territory Building.

Survivors include his wife, Dagmar Schilke; daughters Katherine “Kat” Schilke, Kaaren Schilke-Cherns, and Joann S. Lehmer; grandchildren William A. Lehmer and Anna E. Lehmer; a great-nephew, Jonathan L. Lê; and a great-niece, Trinity E. Lê.

Preceding him in death were a son, David J. Schilke; parents H. William and Esther Schilke; and a brother, Richard M. Schilke.

Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Brownsburg.

Calling is for two hours prior to the service at the church.
