Ooley Feb. 18, 2014

Norman R. Ooley of Brownsburg died Feb. 18. He was 74.

Born April 11, 1939, he was the son of the late Ross and Lorain (Ward) Ooley of Springfield, Ill. He married Carolyn Howald in 1958. She survives. They were married for 55 years.

Mr. Ooley graduated from Brazil High School in 1957 and joined the U.S. Air Force. After spending four years in the Air Force, he went to barber school in Indianapolis.

In 1968, he opened his first barber shop in Brownsburg. In 1986, he opened Norm’s Main St. Hair Co. at 601 E. Main Street in Brownsburg. He made many friends and loyal customers and had a group of caring and loyal staff made up of of Pam Hall, Keri Wagner, Danielle Schrier, and Charles (Chuck) Morgan.

He loved to fish and could tell many large fish stories. He always had a story or joke to tell his customers and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Keith Ooley of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Danielle Freije of Avon, Phillip Ooley and Dereck Ooley of Brownsburg; seven great grandchildren, Grant, Jacob, and Jackson Freije and Rebecca, Taylor, Johnathan, and Alexus Ooley; sister, Elsa Lorain Almasi of Crawford, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Michael and Robert Ooley.

Services and a celebration of life will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. March 9 in Norm’s Main St. Hair Co. in Brownsburg. Masonic rights will be given at 4 p.m.
