Barry W. Sipes of Plainfield

Barry W. Sipes of Plainfield died Nov. 23 in St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. He was 71.

Born October 27, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of the late Chester and Virginia Ruth Sowder Sipes. He married Mary Catherine Roach on July 14, 1963, in Bedford. She survives

Mr. Sipes was an U.S. Marine Corp veteran, a State Police Trooper, and most recently the golf course superintendent at Prestwick Country Club, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Prestwick Country Club, Plainfield Elks Lodge 2186, and the American Legion

He was passionate about the game of golf and loved to read. Mr. Sipes was a Christian and did comparative studies of the many translations of the Bible. He also enjoyed reading about the Civil War.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Shannon Reed Sipes; grandson, Bruce James Sipes, and a nephew, Darren Sipes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary “Gus” Sipes.

Services will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
