Julia K. “Grandma Whitey” Carpenter of Clayton died Saturday at Sugar Grove Senior Living in Plainfield. She was 91.
Born Oct. 18, 1921, she was a daughter of Max and Maggie (Pace) Wash. She married Roy Eugene Carpenter Sr. in 1940 and he died in ‘82.
Mrs. Carpenter graduated from Decatur Central High School. She worked 12 years as a cook for Mill Creek East Elementary School, retiring in 1984.
She had been a member of the Clayton Presbyterian Church since 1953.
Survivors include children Bonnie (Ernie) Noe of Evansville, Roy Eugene (Marcia) Carpenter Jr. of Jasper, Barbara (David) Newlin of Indianapolis, and James R. (Libby) Carpenter of Plainfield; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Clayton. Interment will be at Clayton Cemetery.
Calling is for two hours prior to the service.
