Paul Purvis of Avon died Wednesday. He was 89 and had formerly resided in Cloverdale.

Born Aug. 13, 1918, in Indianapolis, he was a son of the late Leo and Edith (Chamberlain) Purvis.

Mr. Purvis was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He worked 34 years as a meat cutter at Montgomery’s Grocery Store in Indianapolis before retiring in 1980.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn A. and Bill Ogan, and Donna and Tom Smith; a son, Paul “Rick” Purvis; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Reba (Short) Purvis, and a son, Thomas Purvis.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield. Interment will be at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Calling at the funeral home is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
