PLAINFIELD — Madcap Puppet Theatre recently treated students at Van Buren Elementary School to a performance of “Annie Oakley’s Wild West Show” with life-sized puppets. Here, Annie transforms a student into Paul Bunyan, to prepare him for a tug-of-war challenge with Big Eared Beau.

Paul Lawrence (a k a The Enigma) brought his freak show to Plainfield Sept. 16-18 as part of Tattoo City Underground convention at Primo West Banquet and Conference Center. A founding member of the Jim Rose Circus that toured the world during the 1990s, The Enigma now performs a sideshow with his wife Serana Rose called Show Devils.

    Amanda Ibalio, a 2005 graduate of Plainfield High School, is scheduled to complete her tour of duty for the U.S. Navy in Afghanistan later this month. Ibalio is a “Seabee” with the U.S. Navy and will be stationed in Port Hueneme, Calif.

    Hendricks County Sheriff Dave Galloway recently recognized Corp. Frank Harris for his efforts while responding to a suicidal subject. Harris was dispatched to the volatile situation and continually communicated with the subject, who eventually surrendered and was transported to a stress center.

    A DARE graduation ceremony was recently held for 125 sixth-grade students at Cascade Middle School. Deputy Brent Johnson spent 10 weeks educating students on the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Each student was presented with certificates upon completion. Pictured here are Jenna Lee, Mackenzie Mitchell, Hannah Burdsall, Jennifer Bair and Makayla Young who were recognized by Johnson for their outstanding essays.

    Capt. Mike Hovious recently retired from the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department after 32 years of service. During his career he worked in the enforcement division, served as deputy chief, and most recently was assigned to the warrants division. Hovious was presented with a plaque and his duty weapon by Sheriff Dave Galloway.

    Hendricks County Sheriff Dave Galloway recently appointed Major Harold “Hoot” Gibson as the new Hendricks County Jail Commander. He replaces Frank Kolacz, who has retired after four years of service.
