The Biz presents ‘The Jungle Book Jr.’

Production showcases 56 Hendricks County-area children

AVON — A total of 56 children from the Hendricks County area will be taking part in the production of “The Jungle Book Jr.”

The show is being produced by The Biz Academy of Musical Theatre, whose mission is to provide theatrical training for young performers of all abilities and give them a platform to explore, expand, and share their talents while increasing their appreciation for theatre arts. The Biz’s goal is also to raise the community’s awareness of theatre arts in Hendricks County and its surrounding areas.

Disney’s “The Jungle Book” is a beloved story of a young boy who grew up in the forest and is adopted by most of the animals as part of their family. To protect the boy from Shere Khan, the tiger, they must get him to go to the man village. The production is full of jungle life with lots of animals and the memorable characters.

Lead characters and the actors portraying them are: Mowgli — Jadyn Kelly; Bagheera — Oliva Houston; Baloo — Jack Copeland; King Louie — Bailey Harmon; Shere Khan — Lindsey Schaecher; Kaa and Coils — Aria Martin, Juliette Collins, Molly Wolfe, Teagan O’Meara, Mia Stien, and Megan Copeland; Colonel Hathi — Julia Murphy; Baby Elephant — Keith Sturgeon; Shanti/Coconut Tree — Delaney David; Old Monkey — Kyle Griffin; and vultures — Rachel Petersson, Katie Kobold, and Payton Hartman.

Performance dates are 7 p.m. June 7-8 and 14-15 and 3 p.m. June 9 and 16. All shows are at Avon Christian Church, 7236 E. C.R. 100 S.

Along with opportunities for local children to be in live productions, The Biz also offers a variety of classes, lessons, and summer camps. Since opening their business in August of 2012, The Biz has had two other performances — “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr.,” as well as being asked to participate in the Indy 500 Memorial Day Parade.

Tickets for “The Jungle Book Jr.” are $10 for ages 5 and older and will be sold at the door or through a cast member. All tickets are general admission, but due to limited space, it is highly encouraged to buy tickets ahead of time.
