PLAINFIELD — The police department here is supporting the FBI in an investigation involving multiple scenes after a bank robbery Friday morning.
“At approximately 10:50 a.m. the bank alarm sounded,” Capt. Jill Lees of the Plainfield Police Department said at a late morning press conference.
The press conference was in the parking lot of Calvary Baptist Church on South Center Street. From that vantage point, reporters could see one of the crime scenes. Officials say the shooting took place on Springcrest Street between Almond and Bluff roads.
“Members of the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force fatally wounded one suspect,” Lees said. “We know that there were three suspects – two males and one female. The suspect that was killed is a male.”
PPD is working to help both the FBI and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department with the investigation.
“When we got the alarm, our officers were sent out to assist,” Lees said.
There were five bank employees in the building at the time of the robbery.
“The suspects had left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money,” Lees said. “The high school and middle school were placed on lockdown. This neighborhood is in the middle of those two schools. Our number one priority is the safety of our community.”
Lees said the identities of the suspects have not been released as of press time.
