To the Editor:
Center Township taxpayers are burdened with the highest total township tax rate in Hendricks County.
Voters of Center Township, did you know that your tax rate has increased by over 100 percent since 2010? This information can be examined at www.co.hendricks.in.us/ under the auditor’s tab.
The question or questions that need to be asked is, where is this additional tax revenue going and who is benefitting? Center Township does not support any township park systems and most residents who are struggling through this down economy are unaware of the resources available to them from the Center Township Trustee’s Office.
Center Township is a thriving political district in the heart of Hendricks County and encompasses the Town of Danville. It covers a population of over 12,000 people and consists of more than 46 square miles. The office of the trustee has certain obligations as outlined in state statute. Among these are public safety through fire protection, township assistance, and maintaining parks and cemeteries.
The Center Township office is managed by an elected trustee that serves as the township executive, and a township board that is made up of three elected members.
Judy White is the current trustee of Center Township. She has served three terms and is now seeking a fourth (16 years) and has run unopposed in the last two election cycles.
I believe Judy has good intentions, but lacks fresh ideas and fiscal responsibility. It is time to move forward with a new approach on how to better serve the constituents of Center Township that involves budgetary review and a more efficient means of providing the stated services.
I ask Center Township voters to be diligent and informed as we approach the 2014 Primary Election because your voice is important and your interests do matter.
