Author to speak about networking

Productivity expert Robby Slaughter will be speaking to Business & Professional Exchange - Hendricks County on the topic of networking in the job search at 8:15 a.m. March 26 at the West Central Conservancy District, 243 S. C.R. 625 E., Avon.

Slaughter is the author of the book The Unbeatable Recipe for Networking Events, and a noted regional and national speaker on topics related to personal development, time management, employee engagement, and individual productivity.

In these challenging economic times, business networking can be more important than ever. Slaughter offers practical advice on how to successfully connect with professionals and build relationships.

“Networking is more than collecting and distributing business cards,” Slaughter said in a press release. “It’s an opportunity to become systematic about being a resource to others — so they in turn want to become a resource for you.”

The presentation includes several interactive components designed specifically with job seekers in mind. Unemployment in the Hendricks County area is steady at 7.1 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Gallup reports that underemployment has dropped to 17.1 percent nationwide. For these people in particular, Slaughter’s talk on networking may be most valuable.

The Business & Professional Exchange (BPE) is the area’s largest non-profit educational and networking group, focused specifically on professionals in career transition. BPE is a non-profit whose most important role is providing broad-based access to networking opportunities, but it is also unique in its role as a gateway to so many other resources necessary for a successful career search.
