PHS alum missing

Bart Doan

— Police are searching for a former Plainfield man who went missing last weekend from a campground at the Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Ala.

Nicholas “Nick” Bower graduated from Plainfield High School in 2003.

Now a resident of Georgia, he had gone to the NASCAR race with his girlfriend, Jennifer Boesch, a fellow 2003 PHS grad. They were  accompanied by some of Bower’s work friends from Fastenal in Atlanta.

Bower was last seen sitting in a lawn chair at his campsite at the South Parks campground at about 11 p.m. May 4.

“I went to bed and he stayed up around the campfire with a bunch of people, and then they went to bed but he still stayed up,” Boesch said.

She said Bower was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt that said “FASTENAL” on it, as well as blue jeans, black shoes, and a mesh Fastenal hat. She said he had his cell phone, car keys, and wallet with him, and may have also been wearing a gray North Face jacket.

Boesch said Bower’s main interests are his work, racing, and motorcycle riding. She said they travel once or twice a year to various races, and this was their second trip to Talladega. She added that they always return to Indiana for the Indianapolis 500 and had planned on doing that again this year too.

Bower is 28 years old, about 6’5” tall, and weighs 180 pounds. He had worked at Fastenal in Indiana before transferring south.

The 2.6 mile oval at Talladega is one of NASCAR’s  largest tracks and also has one of its largest campground areas.

Anyone with information on Bower’s whereabouts is asked to call the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office at 256-362-6177.
