INDIANAPOLIS — Beef & Boards' 40th anniversary season heats up in a flash when "Menopause, The Musical" opens March 27 for the first time at the dinner theatre. The hilarious and fun celebration of women and "the change" continues live on stage through May 12.
Written by Jeanie Linders, "Menopause, The Musical" is set in a department store, where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale. The all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats, and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women in this uplifting production, which includes parodies from the 1960s, '70s, and '80s. It culminates with a salute to women who are experiencing "the change."
Millions of women of all ages and stages find their spirits lifted by the show's light-hearted look at menopause. "Menopause, The Musical" encourages a healthy dialogue about issues of aging and women's health. Recognizing the show's potential to engage and educate women, writer and producer Jeanie Linders produced two tours of "Menopause, The Musical Out Loud: Breaking the Silence of Ovarian Cancer." These successful tours traveled across America and visited more than 100 cities raising awareness and funds for local and regional ovarian cancer chapters. "Menopause, The Musical" also supports the Jeanie C. Linders Fund, a nonprofit that supports women worldwide in the areas of health, education, and culture.
