James Gordon Baer died Monday at his Bedford home. He was 87.
Born Dec. 3, 1925, in Bedford, he was a son of the late Carl Robert and Dorothy Bennett Baer. He was their third child. He was married for 50 years to JoAnn Elrod Baer and she died in 1997. He married Anna Mae Dorsett Baer in 1999 and she survives.
Mr. Baer was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving active duty in World War ll. He worked 40 years for Public Service Indiana (now Duke Energy) before retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church of Bedford where he had served as a deacon.
Survivors include sons Jeffrey Baer and wife Sharon of Plainfield, and Joseph Baer and wife Barba of Bloomington; grandchildren Jacob, Julia, and Joshua Baer. Also surviving are Anna Mae’s children, which he fondly referred to as his own. They include daughter LeeAnna Trueblood and husband; granddaughter Lori and husband Trevor Rynders, and great-grandchildren Kaylee, Emmi, Chase and Trace Rynders of Bedford.
Preceding him in death were siblings Jeanne Baer Owens and Robert Baer.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel in Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield. Calling is for an hour prior to the service.
Hampton Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield is handling arrangements.
