Field set for Distinguished Young Women competition

— There are 18 young women, residing in either Washington Township, Hendricks County, or attending Avon High School, who will compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Avon on July 27.

High school seniors participating in this year’s program, “Christmas in July,” include Veronica Blair, Paige Camp, Gennie Conquet, Emily Crandall, Kati Dendler, Catrien Egbert, Madelyn Hayes, JaNai Hunt, Mikaela Loker, Erica Metzler, Melissa McDaniel, Bailie McGee, Jodi Ringham, Kaytlynn Schabel, Annalee Scholtes, Michelle Snyder, Carrie Sparks, and Mallory Thatch.

America’s Junior Miss, now Distinguished Young Women, is the largest and oldest national scholarship program inspiring high school senior girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments.

Fundraising events for the program have been scheduled. All proceeds earned or donated will become part of this year’s scholarship fund.

June 18 will kick off fundraising with a Thirty-One Open House & Catalogue fundraiser party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Park Square Manor. A car wash is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 22 at Key Bank in Avon. Also, Gold Canyon Candles are being sold by the contestants and committee from June 18 to 29. In addition to these events, program participants will support and promote the Distinguished Young Women of Avon mission of “Be Your Best Self,” a positive youth outreach program during the summer activities. Girls entering grades three through eight are invited to the free Camp Be Your Best Self on July 26 at Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church, 4396 E. Main St., Avon. Registration brochures are available at the Avon-Washington Township Public Library, from contestants, or from the chairmen.
