---- — The Indiana University Health hospital system announced late last week that there will be nearly 800 layoffs throughout the system.
The workforce reduction will impact IU Health Methodist Hospital, IU Health University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, IU Health North Hospital, IU Health Saxony Hospital, IU Health Tipton Hospital, and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
According to a statement from IU Health, the changes are being made to allow the organization to remain at the forefront of nationally-recognized patient care and excellence.
IU Health West in Avon will not reduce staff as part of the announced cuts.
“Since our opening nearly nine years ago, IU Health West has been recognized throughout the IU Health system for doing more with less, for exceeding our financial targets while continuing to excel in the crucial areas of quality, safety, and service,” IU Health West President and CEO Matt Bailey said in a message to employees Thursday. “That hard work and diligence pays off today.”
At this time, it’s estimated that about 800 positions will be impacted, but IU Health expects that number to fall as eligible people take advantage of the first-ever early retirement program, retraining opportunities and transfers.
