Exchange Club to host candidate forum

SPEEDWAY —

The Exchange Club of Speedway will host a candidate forum/town meeting from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Speedway High School.

The committed speakers are Joe Donnelly’s campaign manager Paul Tencher, Libertarian Senate candidate Andy Horning, a representative of Richard Murdock’s campaign, Seventh District candidate Carlos May, and a representative from Andre Carson’s office. Also speaking will be Senate 35 candidates Mike Young and Mark Waterfil, and House 92 candidates Karlee Macer and Tim Motsinger.

Questions for the candidates will come from a panel chosen by the Exchange Club, as well as the audience.

Exchange Club member Gordan Dempsey has been helping to organize the event.

“The club felt the event would be a good public service at election time,” he said. “It allows more direct contact and interaction than watching debates on TV.”

Dempsey said he’s pleased with how many candidates have committed to participate.

“We will have six candidates there in person and others sending their representatives,” Dempsey said. “I think it’s a good group.”

The candidates will each be give four minutes to speak and introduce themselves. They will then be asked questions by the audience and panel.

“They will be given an opportunity to give a closing statement,” Dempsey said. “And then we will have a mixer to end the evening.”

The Exchange Club of Speedway Inc. was incorporated in 1985 as a local chapter of the National Exchange Club, which was formed in 1911 (the same year the first Indianapolis 500 was held).

The Exchange Club of Speedway is a volunteer organization with no paid employees and very little administrative overhead. Net revenues are used for charitable purposes including the prevention of child abuse, youth services in central Indiana, and Americanism.

The primary recipient of the club’s fundraising efforts is the Gene Glick Family Support Center, the nationally designated Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center in Indianapolis.
