“We also support the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Clothe a Child program,” Smith said. “There are five state programs we support. We’re a small income club, so we can’t give out thousands of dollars, but we give out whatever we can. One thing we did this year that was different is we did Project Lifesaver, gave them money this year.”
Smith said the group is always looking for additional members with a core value of just simply serving the community and making it a better place.
“I was brought up from my family to where you don’t take anything for granted,” she said. “You give back to people that help you. It makes me feel good to give something back to the community or to somebody that really needs it. This is the largest fundraiser we have during the year and the last one for our fiscal year.”
The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, coffee, juice, and milk. The cost to attend is $5 if bought pre-sale and $6 at the door. In addition, the BDLC will be collecting eyeglasses, hearing aids, cell phones, and food items for a local food pantry.
