Children's room back in service

Plainfield library celebrates grand reopening

PLAINFIELD — Hundreds of Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library patrons came out to celebrate the grand reopening of the children’s room and kick-off the summer reading program Tuesday evening.

The library’s youth services manager, Courtney Allison, said she was very pleased with the community participation in the event.

“The library is always busy, but this is super busy,” she said. “We’ve had a great response.”

Allison has been with the library for nearly three years and has been the children’s services manager for the last year.

“I love the Plainfield library,” she said. “They are so forward thinking. It’s a wonderful place to work.”

The children’s room renovation included new carpeting, painting of the walls, new furniture, and new interactive technology.

“It’s so exciting and we just love the space,” Allison said. “We just couldn’t wait to have kids in to enjoy the space. We’re already getting great feedback.”

Library Director Rachel Ziegler said the project went very smoothly. The total cost was about $200,000.

“The children’s room was closed for one month,” Ziegler said. “They did a great job in getting it ready.”

The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is governed by a board of trustees led by president Mary Giesting, who is the assistant superintendent of the Plainfield Community School Corporation.

Also serving on the board of trustees are Janet Haley as vice president, Tina Lamb as secretary, Nelda Keltner as treasurer, Kevin Neal, Ed McElfresh, and Andy Richmond.

The library was also celebrating the kick-off of the Summer Reading Club that runs through June and July. Families sign up for the program that offers incentives to readers.

“Families can still register on our website,” Allison said.

As part of the festivities, families were treated to a performance of the Mr. Molecule Science Show. Many young musicians who study at the Launch Pad – Rock School and Recording Studios also performed for library patrons.
