Competitors will vie for the title of McCloud Nature Park’s champion natural boat builder on May 24.
Boat builders can meet the park naturalist in the Nature Center at 2 p.m. for a brief orientation before collecting their materials, designing, and building a boat using only natural materials found in the park.
Once completed, the boats will “race” down the majestic waters of the Big Walnut Creek.
The first to float across the finish line receives a prize, and the honor of becoming McCloud’s next champion.
This free program is open to the community, designed for all ages, and should last about two hours.
McCloud Nature Park is operated by Hendricks County Parks and Recreation and is five minutes south of North Salem at 8518 North Hughes Road.
Admission is always free and the park is open from dawn to dusk daily.
The Nature Center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
