Celebrate Arbor Day on a history hike at McCloud Nature Park at 2 p.m. April 26.
Participants can learn about the holiday that began as a simple idea of setting aside a special day for tree planting and is now celebrated in all 50 states and many foreign countries.
Park naturalists will discuss the many reasons trees are important, and show how to properly plant a tree.
The hike is designed for all ages and participants can receive a free seedling (while supplies last) to take home and plant.
McCloud Nature Park is operated by Hendricks County Parks and Recreation and is located five minutes south of North Salem at 8518 North Hughes Road.
Admission is always free and the park is open from dawn to dusk daily.
The Nature Center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
