Group to award aviation scholarship

CNHI

— Those familiar with general aviation will recognize that today's average pilot age is increasing, and that the end result is a declining number of active pilots. The Hendricks County Aviation Association is attempting to counter that trend.

Applications are being solicited from current residents of Hendricks County, between the ages of 16 and 26, for a scholarship to help begin flight training toward obtaining a sport, recreational, or traditional pilot's license.

The scholarship will be awarded this June. Submission format should be of an essay explaining and covering the reasons why the applicant should be considered for the scholarship. As a baseline, points to be included in the submission should include:

- How or why the applicant became interested in aviation.

- How does the applicant intend to give back to the local or aviation community after becoming a pilot?

- What plan does the applicant have for being active in aviation in the future?

- What qualities or skills does the applicant have, or is currently developing, that will make them a good aviator?

Submissions should also include general information such as education/GPA, awards, and/or letters of recommendation. Consideration will be given for military and community service, prior or current youth program participation, and positions of leadership. If the applicant intends to pursue a traditional pilot's certificate, the ability to pass a 3rd Class Medical will be required.

Updates or additional information will be posted as it becomes available on the HCAA website at www.hcaaonline.com.

Submissions may be addressed and sent to HCAA Scholarship, 1286 Holiday Lane West, Brownsburg, IN 46112. The deadline for submissions is March 31.
