Corporate refugee turned songwriter to perform in Danville

The "Keys, Strings & Other Things" live music series presents its 2013 spring show, featuring Shenandoah Valley singer-songwriter-storyteller Andrew McKnight.

The show is 7 p.m. April 6 at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 95 N. Jefferson St., Danville. While the show is in a church building, it is not intended to promote any particular religious point of view.

Since permanently leaving his corporate environmental engineering career in 1996, McKnight's musical journey has traced more than a half-million miles of blue highways and small towns across the country. He has released five critically acclaimed CDs including "Beyond Borders," which was one of five finalists for the Independent Music Awards Americana Album of the Year.

McKnight's music is heard on broadcast and Internet radio programs around the world, including many National Public Radio stations and XM/Sirius Satellite, and he's been a featured guest on the nationally syndicated "Art of the Song" and "River City Folk" shows. While no stranger to elite stages like the Kennedy Center, the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival, or the Katharine Hepburn Theater, McKnight particularly enjoys performing before audiences in smaller, more intimate venues like the one for this concert.

Admission is $10 with children 16 and younger being admitted for $5. To learn more about McKnight and listen to several of his songs, visit his website at www.andrewmcknight.net.
