AVON — Police here have arrested a man for allegedly shooting his son in the foot over a money dispute.
Avon police responded to a report of a person shot in the foot just before 11 p.m. Monday in the Thornridge neighborhood. Upon arrival investigators say they found Shawn Means, 29, suffering from a gunshot wound to his left foot.
Police report that Patrick Means, 56, Shawn’s father, was at the scene and admitted to intentionally shooting his son. He was taken into custody after a search warrant was obtained to secure the scene.
In the police report, officials say Shawn had asked Patrick if he had picked up a $100 bill. He allegedly went on to say that an argument ensued and that Patrick picked up a gun that was on the floor nearby and shot him. Shawn also allegedly told investigators that his father had been physically abusive toward him in the past and that Patrick was drinking at the time of this incident.
Shawn was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where he had to undergo reconstructive surgery on his foot that also required removal of the bullet that was still lodged. Medical staff reportedly told police that Shawn’s foot and ankle would never be the same and he’d have problems with them the rest of his life.
