Danville to present Peanuts musical

CNHI

— Danville Community High School presents Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the Peanuts gang in the musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” on May 3-5.

The whole gang, including Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Sally, Lucy, Schroeder, and Linus, will bring the familiar comic strip to life.

“Everyone can relate to this show. Whether you’re young, old, or in between ... you’ve heard of Charlie Brown,” said Amanda Pierson, the musical’s director.

This show was revived on Broadway in 1999, starring Kristen Chenoweth (“Wicked”) as Sally and Anthony Rapp (“Rent”) as Charlie Brown. It follows an average day in the life of Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang, from Valentine’s Day to baseball season.

Danville’s production will reveal many performers who have yet to take the stage at the high school level.

“The best part of this experience is opening the stage to so many talented students,” Pierson said. “Each year the program gains more kids, and every year I’m surprised by the new talent that emerges.”

Those students who don’t necessarily want to be on stage are able to share their talents in other ways, such as set building, playing an instrument in the pit orchestra, painting scenery, helping out as a stage crew member, and being involved in the lighting and sound aspects of the show.

Tickets are available at the door and are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, and $8 for students. Children younger than 5 are admitted free. The show is appropriate for all ages.  What patrons pay for admission will help support future musicals at Danville Community High School. The performing arts department would like to gain funds over time, enabling them to produce even more elaborate shows for the community in the future.
