Swim team seeks more volunteers

CNHI

— The Avon Community Swim Team (ACST) has announced June 25 as Avon Community Volunteer Day at the Phillips 66 National Championships and World Championship Trials in the IU Natatorium at the IUPUI Campus. The championships run June 25-29. There are still 95 spots for volunteers on June 25.

The Avon Community Swim Team (ACST) is a co-host with Indiana Swimming and the IU Sports Complex for the Championships.  ACST is partnering with the Avon Community School Corporation and the Town of Avon to promote Avon Community Volunteer Day.

The most elite swimmers from the United States will compete for national honors and the opportunity to represent the country on the world championship team this July in Barcelona. The meet will be televised on NBC and is considered the largest and most prominent USA Swimming event in the U.S. this year.

The Avon community and its residents will have an opportunity to be in the national spotlight and a part of history this summer by volunteering. Each day consists of usually three sessions and residents can volunteer over multiple days or volunteer for one day.

While June 25 has been selected as Avon Community Volunteer Day, Avon volunteers will be welcomed all week long, as there will be a need to have between 400 and 550 volunteers each day.

The online volunteer registration site may be accessed through the ACST website at www.acstswim.org.  Volunteers can click on the national championship logo to view the descriptions, as well as sign up for the available spots and sessions.  All volunteers will need to attend a training session.

The first training session for Avon volunteers is 6 p.m. June 6 in the Avon High School Advanced Learning Center lecture hall.  If a volunteer is not able to make the first training session, there will be additional opportunities downtown at the natatorium.
